About Us
I am Mr. Richard Robert, born in 1983, born in Seychelles, raised in Canada and then returned to Seychelles at the age of 13. In my many skills, I trained in the field of Customer Service in the Tourism industry but subsequently worked as an Immigration Officer, Senior Customs Officer, and later as the Senior Transport Analyst and Overseas Procurement Officer for Creole Travel Services. Although passionate about my work; I had other passions.
I have always been an artist and a singer song-writer since the age of 16 onwards but in early the year 2020, when all shops were closed due to the unforeseen Covid 19 and global lockdown, I found myself in a predicament because I had my sister's birthday coming up and no present to buy for her. But I had some shells I had started picking and a photo frame I got from IKEA. And so I said why not decorate the frame and gift it to her, which I did. She certainly loved it! She then proceeded to show it to her friends, and her friends to their friends... and thus word of mouth got me going in the direction of taking the shells I would pick up from the beaches of Mahe island and make them into art, jewellery, gifts and decorations.
Throughout its 4 years of existence, Unik Shells has developed a name for itself and gained a reputation for making unique works of art and jewellery pieces with what it finds, through sustainably beachcombing the many serene beaches of Mahe and surrounding islands, ensuring no live animals are harmed in the process.
